About Swanage Main Beach

Swanage Main Beach is a beautiful, gently shelving sandy beach with clear waters, ideal for a traditional seaside experience. It's a great spot for dog walkers outside of the summer season, offering easy access and a pleasant environment for a stroll.

Notable features: Gently shelving, golden sandy beach, clear unpolluted water, rock pools (found along the shore), sheltered bay, promenade.

Dog Tips

Dogs are not permitted on the main beach from 1st May until 30th September. During the allowed period, visitors are asked to always clean up after their dog and use the numerous dog waste bins provided throughout the town. Dogs should be kept on a lead in busy areas.

Dogs are banned from 1st May to 30th September. Best time to visit with dogs is between 1st October and 30th April. The beach can be busy during school holidays and summer.

Parking

Main Beach car park (BH19 1AP) on Victoria Avenue has 265 parking spaces. It's a pay and display car park with hourly (£1.50-£1.80) and daily (£8) charges, available 24 hours a day. The car park is approximately a five-minute walk to the beach.

Facilities

Toilets (including accessible facilities) are available at the Main Beach car park and on Shore Road. Dog waste bins are widely available throughout Swanage. Cafes and refreshment kiosks are located along the promenade. Lifeguard services are in operation from late May to early September.

Wheelchair accessible with beach matting available during July and August from the slipway by Banjo Pier. Ramps and slipways are present along the beach. Accessible toilets are available at the Main Beach car park.
