🐾 Dog Information

Dog Tips

Dogs are welcome in the surrounding countryside. From June 1st to September 30th, dogs are not permitted on the main beach directly in front of the café, but are allowed east of the wooden chalet towards Cogden and Portland Island. Dogs should be kept on a short lead (max two meters) when busy, and between March 1st and July 31st due to ground-nesting birds. It is recommended to keep dogs on lead near cliffs due to their crumbling nature and the presence of adders. Always clear up dog waste, using dedicated bins or taking it home. Effective recall is necessary for off-lead control.

Best Time to Visit

May or during sunny days are good for visiting. June is best for appreciating the flora. Consider visiting in the evening to avoid crowds, but note that parking machines may only take coins.

Hazards to be aware of

No lifeguard service, strong currents, shelving beach, large waves, unstable cliffs, adders.

Parking

Paid parking is available at Hive Beach car park. Charges are £4.40 for 2 hours, £8.80 for 4 hours, and £11 for all day. National Trust members can validate their parking. Limited space is available for motorhomes, and overnight parking or camping is not permitted.
